Happy Birthday Dean!

Happy birthday to my sweet nephew Dean. I have only spent a short amount of time with him in person, but I love him like I spent every day of the past year with him. He is sweet and has some of the best parents ever.
I love these 3 guys. Dean Cochran, Cory Cochran, and Dean Michael.

Camping Night #1

We got off to a late start for our camping trip this weekend. We weren't able to get to the prime camping spot we wanted to because of this, so we kept driving. We found a little campground a few miles before we hit Flagstaff, AZ.

I had made tin foil dinners that we were able to grill up as soon as we got our tents set up. I will have to say it is a nice and easy camp dinner.
I was shocked that Ryann ate her entire dinner. I didn't have to bribe, plead, force feed, or anything. This was a new meal for her so I was surprised that she ate it all.
We were then able to sit around the campfire and enjoy each other's company. Our girls were so tired that they didn't even stay up for s'mores.
Our s'mores were a mix of hersheys and reeses peanut butter cups. It was delicious.

Robot Pops

What are my girls eating??
Ummm, only delicious ROBOT POPS. They were made for my girlfriend's baby shower. She had a little robot theme and these pops are a gooey brownie covered in chocolate with a lot more rich and sweet all mixed in between.

How cute are those?

Sunflower

Ryann has been growing a sunflower. She reminds me to water it (most days) and she always moves it around the kitchen so that it can be in the sun. It is so crazy how small it started out. I knew it was going to die... but it has made it this far!

Freaky

I got my eyeballs checked the other day. When I say eyeballs I got my vision and the splotches on my eyes check out.
I still have a pinguicula (or 4!!) and they aren't concerned that they are getting bigger. These are just the red and yellow spots on my eyes from sun damage. It is like what old people get... but I got as a little kid. Thanks dad for not making me wear sunglasses when I went snow skiing. Just kidding- it wasn't just from that :) and I think you did make me wear them, so I guess when I took them off it was just to look cool but really I was foolish.

I digress.

I also have 2 Nevi in my right eye? What? Jeans in your eye? No- not LEVI, but Nevi- I have 2 moles in my right eye. No biggie. Not cancer. Not abnormal (apparently it is normal to get moles in your eye- right big sister?)

And here is a creepy blurry picture of my dilated eyeball. Amazing.

Some More

Well I got the picture CD in the mail, but there are so many that my computer is taking it's sweet time loading them all to the computer. So here is another set that I am in love with.
Cara is playing with her rocks of course- she won't ever put those things down. They are in the wash, they are in her crib, all over the floor, the porch, her carseat, and even our family pictures.
Who taught these girls how to make silly faces like this??

Aaak!

I cannot get enough of searching through these family pictures of mine that were taken for my mother's day present.
These nuggets gave us a run for our money and we had to feed them lots of popcorn to get them to smile every once in awhile.

Here is the LINK to some more of the pictures.

Corn Dog Excitement

Friday Ryann was so excited after biting into her corn dog- she looked at me and said,
"MOM! There is a little hot dog in there!!"

Thank you Sonic for your free coupons for a wonderfully cheap dinner!

Cupcakes

I made chcolate and vanilla creme filled cupcakes for a party at Rich's work. I sent Rich with 40 cupcakes and not a single one made it back home. Rich said they were so good that I needed to write down how I made them so I can replicate them in the future.

For those of you who don't know me, I use a new recipe almost every single time I bake something. I don't know why, I just do. Maybe because I think there is always a good recipe to be tried and tasted. I don't want any to feel left out.

So... I used chocolate fudge cake mix and added some chocolate pudding to the mix. I then baked them and filled them with a creme filling. I wanted to use THIS recipe from http://sweetcuppincakesbakery.blogspot.com, but I had just used my marshmallow fluff a few days before. So instead I took some heavy whipping cream, added some powdered sugar and vanilla and made my own little filling for the cupcakes.

After I filled them I iced them with some amazing buttercream frosting. Just your normal run of the mill powdered sugar, butter and vanilla frosting, but I beat it really fast for awhile so it would be nice and fluffy. I added the pink food coloring as well.

When I ran out of the cream filling that I had for the first 3 dozen cupcakes I finished off the other dozen (or so) with strawberry filling. So I decided to make strawberry frosting for the rest of the cupcakes. I added the strawberry filling to the buttercream frosting. This made it more dense frosting but delicious anyway.
To top it all off I decorated them nice and pretty and simple.
Hopefully I can remember this for next time too.

Push Ups

We like to exercise around here. Well, not really. So I have no idea where Ryann learned to do push ups.

She looks pretty cute doing them though.

Missing Husband

Saturday and last night I had a missing husband. Don't worry though- I was more than willing to have him missing for his Mothers/Birthday/Thanksgiving/Christmas gift for his mother.

(jk! But seriously it was/is a large amount of work)

He always has these crazy ideas of how to take care of his mom and make her life easier. Unfortunately it almost always involves money, time, grandious plans and often is a huge hassel for his mom... until the project is complete at the end. And even then sometimes she has a lot of work afterwards... Basically for every 3 good ideas he has a bad idea. I thought this project was going to be one of the bad ideas- but we will see.

Good idea:

1. He built her planter boxes for a garden.
2. He built shelves for her garage.
3. He replaced her side gate.

Bad idea:
He once built her a pond. To this day the filter and pump still don't work right. It is full of leaves and all the fish have died. Thankfully it isn't infested with fungus or bugs, but it is a great attraction for little granddaughters to scare their grandma by getting too close.
Here is a picture of Rich mudding the new ceiling.

Good idea:
1. He installed our old microwave into her house
2. He redid (as in cut and sanded and stained) some of her cabinets so a new and working stove could be installed
3. He was smart enough to snag a semi-new washer and dryer (front loaders!) and installed them for her- save money, noise reduction, and time.

Bad idea:
He parked his sailboat in her side yard which ended up being called about to the city- then she had to redo her side yard in order to make it boat legal so that it could stay on her property... time and money and work!
Here is Chris and Lee who helped raise the ceiling- It used to be low- where the paint line is.

Good idea:
1. Repaired her garage door
2. Replaced toilets and sinks in her bathroom
3. Replaced plumbing in the shower

Bad idea:
He often goes up and does yard work, ALMOST finishes it, but then she is required to haul it all out to the street for bulk pickup. I think this happens at least once a year. She always ends up getting scratched by the bushes, eaten by ants, and I think once or twice she has been poked in the eye by falling branches.

Still a work in progress, but he installed all the new lights, with wiring and duct work for the AC and everything.

Good idea:
1. Repaired the roof on her back porch
2. Encouraged her to get a cell phone! (She still hasn't learned how to text)
3. Cut down a huge rotting tree in the front yard

Bad idea:
Well, this could turn out to be good... but raising her ceiling so her house feels bigger, she has better lighting, and helps to connect the house. The bad part comes that it is not finishes (almost a week), the house is a mess, there is a fine layer of dust all over the house, and this project will then lead to her painting the walls, the cabinets, and redoing some more home remodel.

Future projects:
Rich wants to know if anyone has input on his future project, should it be:
1. Installing a fireplace
2. Building a pool
3. Front lights on patio
4. Retile shower
5. Fix the back porch

Cookie Time

Uncle Rob brought us home some Paradise Bakery Cookies. Like an entire box!
Wow.
Best. Day. Ever.
Says Mom, RyRy, and Cara.
Cara was a fan of the sprinkles.
Don't you try to touch her cookie.
All done Mom! Clean me up!

Summer Time

I know that Auntie Devyn is out making a fire tonight.
I know that it is raining on Auntie Ashley and Auntie Katie.
I know that Auntie Erin is expecting showers towards the end of the week.
But here in Phoenix we pulled out our swim suits and fudgesicles.
Don't worry, we remembered to use sunscreen!

Crafty Day

We started out our Saturday playing with "Disney dough" and Ryann made some Rapunzel hair. She used yellow dough and rolled it out to be nice and long like Rapunzel.
Then I got adventurous and with the help of 3 other adults I let the girls and their friends paint some rocks. Since there were 4 adults and 4 kids I totally thought we would keep the messes to a minimum.
Obviously not so much.
But in the end it was pretty cute and I am sure the paint will come out of their clothes eventually.

Straw

Yes I am that mom who sacrifices the attempt at a good movie/picture.
So what if my kid occasionally sticks trash in her mouth?
When it is unscripted it is way better... right?
Ugh. GROSS!

I promise tomorrow I will get off of the evening walk with Cara in her mismatched clothes and pink shoes.

What is wrong with this picture?
I didn't notice it until after I took the picture.

Lots of silly videos.

Crazy Dancers

We took a video of my crazy girls... you will agree that they are CRAZY~

Crazy Kids

My girls are hysterical some days, naughty other days, sweet as pie, or just plain crazy.
Yesterday was one of those crazy days.

Ryann demanded a sweater yesterday because it was ummm... 5 degrees cooler (?) than the day before- like 70 degrees when we left the house.
But she still had her (one) flip flop on... hmmm....
And then Cara was going to town on a strawberry while riding her pillow pet. She also felt it was necessary to use a bowl for a helmet for her horse.

Milk Mustache

Cara loves to act like a big girl and drink her milk from a real cup. The problem is she doesn't ever seem to leave her cup on the table and brings it all over the house with her.

She drinks milk fine from a cup. She does NOT walk well with milk in a cup. She spills it everywhere she goes.
Who doesn't love milk and cookies before bed?

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mothers day to all the lovely mothers and to myself :)

To make my morning special I decided to make some lemon blueberry pancakes- courtesy of The Pioneer Woman
Rich offered to make it, but I LOVE cooking from the pioneer woman sooo much that I decided to do it anyway. I was the only one who enjoyed them, Rich and the girls ate regular pancakes.

I added some home made whipped cream as well- delicious!
I also got a seriously sweet book made by my hubby and girls, I will try to scan it in and post pictures later.
My real "big" Mother's Day gift was getting our family pictures done yesterday, hopefully we will get the pictures soon and hopefully one came out okay!

Family Pictures

We are getting our first family pictures taken today... like professional family pictures. I am excited and nervous. Ryann woke up extra early this morning and that is never good.

I am just hoping it goes better than this picture below---- Ryann is pretending to be a unicorn.
Hopefully today she will just pretend to be a little girl.

Mommy Daughter Date

RyRy and I went on a date to see the local high school sing their "Pops" concert.
Think Glee without the drama and story and just awesome music.
We had a lot of fun, but it was late so we ended up leaving at intermission. Ryann cried on the walk to the car. She really didn't want to leave.

She fell asleep on the car ride home.

Happy Hump Day

Today is the one year mark since Zach went on his mission. I love that guy.
My girls love that guy.
Ryann asks to sleep in her uncle Zach shirt at least once a week.
We also pray for him every day.
I am so proud of him. He is such a stud.
1 year down... 1 to go.

ps- today is international midwives day.
Go hug a midwife!!

Progression of a birthday cake

I decided last minute to make a rainbow birthday cake for Cara Kay.
I found the idea on Omnomicon

Mine was not quite as pretty as hers. I want to know how many times she had to make it in order for it to turn out so fancy.

So here, I present....(drumroll)... the progression of a RAINBOW birthday cake.

The batter:
The 4 layers (so i missed the middle step in pictures!) with the frosting:
The collapse:
The blowing out of the candle (with a child's head strategically placed to hid the back side from my camera):
Enjoying the cake:
Failure or not, this cake was delicious and fun for the girls.

Maybe next time I will stick to something simple.
Like 2 layers.
Or better yet,
CUPCAKES!
